Clifford S. Smith Sr., veteran, devoted family man
Clifford S. Smith Sr. passed away Saturday, June 8, 2024, at his home in Millsboro. He was born April 8, 1948, in Salisbury, Md. Clifford's life was characterized by dedication to his family, service to his country, and a career marked by excellence and leadership.
Clifford was predeceased by his parents, Robert and Eileen Smith; and brother, Wayne Smith. Clifford is survived by a loving family, including his two sons, Clifford S. Smith Jr. and his wife Marcie, and Robert J. Smith and his wife Melissa, all of Millsboro; as well as their mother, Jane Nock and stepfather Wayne Nock Sr. of Millsboro. He was a proud uncle to numerous nieces and nephews, and a cherished grandfather to Justin, Megan, Luke and Nicholas.
Clifford honorably served in the U.S. Army Reserves for six years, a testament to his patriotism and sense of duty. His professional life was largely spent at LD Caulk in Milford as director of computer programming. His commitment to the community was evident through his past membership in Masonic Lodge No. 37 in Dagsboro, the Elks Lodge in Selbyville, and Gumboro Fire Company.
A man of diverse interests, Clifford enjoyed the simple pleasures of bowling and horseshoes. However, his biggest passion was surf-fishing at 3 R's beach, where he found tranquility and joy. An avid Orioles fan, Clifford's enthusiasm for his team was infectious.
Clifford's legacy is one of unwavering love for his family, and a life filled with joyful pursuits. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind cherished memories and a community enriched by his presence.
