Coastal Concerts releases 2022-23 season lineup

August 20, 2022

Coastal Concerts has announced its schedule of six live, in-person concerts for the upcoming season. All performances will take place in the fellowship hall of Bethel United Methodist Church at Fourth and Market streets in Lewes.

Performance Insights will be presented by Lani Spahr one hour prior to each concert except for the season-ending show in April.

Patrons may note that two of the four concerts that are normally matinees had to be scheduled for the evening to accommodate the performers’ needs.

Leading off the season will be pianist Amy Yang at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 22. Yang has performed in a number of international competitions and venues.

Smetana Trio will perform at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 12. Founded in 1934 by the legendary Czech pianist Josef Pálenícek, violinist Alexandr Plocek and cellist František Smetana, the trio is today’s foremost Czech chamber ensemble. Its current complement perpetuates the ideals created by its illustrious predecessors. The Smetana Trio previously performed for Coastal Concerts in February 2018.

Imani Winds will perform at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 28. Celebrating over 20 years of music making,  Imani Winds has led both a revolution and the evolution of the wind quintet through dynamic playing, adventurous programming, imaginative collaborations and outreach endeavors that have inspired audiences of all ages and backgrounds.

Curtis on Tour: Viano String Quartet with Roberto Díaz, Viola, will take the stage at 2 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 18. Formed in 2015 at the Colburn Conservatory of Music in Los Angeles, the quartet has performed all over the world.

Takács Quartet will play at 2 p.m., Saturday, March 18. Now entering its 47th season, today’s quartet comprises Edward Dusinberre, Harumi Rhodes (violins), Richard O’Neill (viola) and András Fejér (cello).

Elena Urioste, Violin and Tom Poster, Piano will take the stage at 7:30 p.m., Saturday, April 1. Urioste is a graduate of both Curtis and Juilliard who has given acclaimed performances as soloist with major orchestras throughout the world. As an avid chamber musician, Urioste is the founder and artistic director of Chamber Music by the Sea, an annual August festival held on Maryland’s Eastern Shore. Poster is a musician whose skills and passions extend well beyond the conventional role of the concert pianist.
