Coastal Georgetown AAUW holds scholarship fundraiser
The Coastal Georgetown Branch of the American Association of University Women held its holiday basket raffle at the Wheelhouse Restaurant in Lewes Dec. 8 to benefit the organization's scholarship fund.
This year, CG-AAUW will offer over $10,000 in college scholarships to the women and girls of Sussex County. The fundraising event included lunch, theme-centered baskets that were raffled off to members and their guests, and a collection for children's books that were donated to Primeros Pasos in Georgetown.
Barbara Shamp, education/scholarship chair, said she credits the success of the basket raffle to local coastal businesses that generously donated their products and services to the cause of furthering the education of girls and women in Sussex County. Participating donors were Aquamarine, Beach Jetty, Biblion, Bicycle Connection of Bethany, Funky Lady, Kids’ Ketch, Lewes Cycle Sports, Lewes Gourmet & Puzzles, Mariachi restaurant, Pineapple Princess Swimwear, Stephan & Co. Salon & Spa, The Finn Chronicles, Touch of Italy, Twila Farrell and Vintage Underground.
Shamp said CG-AAUW scholarship applications are now available at the Cape Henlopen, Indian River, Sussex Academy, Sussex Central and Sussex Tech high school guidance offices. Interested students can also obtain applications from county libraries that have teen programs.
