CAMP Rehoboth held its annual Women’s+ FEST – Fun, Entertainment, Spring, Tradition – April 10-13, featuring a variety of events and performances to celebrate women, both cis and trans, as well as nonbinary individuals and the spectrum of femininity.
Since its inception in 2001 as a women’s conference and weekend, the springtime event has grown in size and popularity.
This year, the schedule included several golf tournaments, art exhibits, a pickleball tournament, dances and socials, music bingo, speaker series, sound therapy, musical performances and more.
Headlining the festival April 11 were stand-up comedian Gwen La Roka and musician Be Steadwell.
La Roka, a Chicago native, has performed at several world-famous comedy clubs, incorporating her experiences as a queer Latina woman into her comedy. Her energetic presence, animated movements and facial expressions had the Rehoboth audience laughing throughout her performance.
Steadwell, a singer-songwriter and filmmaker from Washington, D.C., composes songs onstage using vocal layering, beatboxing and looping. She’s known for producing music in a genre that she calls “Queer Pop.”
Between the two Friday night performances was a live auction, with items such as a painting by a local artist, tickets to the Broadway show “Wicked” and several all expenses-paid trips.
