Lunch with a Purpose highlights West Rehoboth youth program
Lunch with a Purpose held its April event at Rehoboth Beach Country Club April 6. Not even the overcast, windy day dampened the enthusiasm for those who attended in support of West Rehoboth Children and Youth Program. Attendees came with arms full of donations which filled the van and will help support the program.
This organization, which began in 2002 and serves 20-25 students during the school year and in the summer months, serves a community with great needs. West Rehoboth Children and Youth Program provides outreach to West Rehoboth community members, after-school and summer programs, and enrichment and culture building for the community. Its mission is to foster literacy, learning and health by providing wholesome after-school and summer enrichment activities for children of the community. This organization has received the Healthy Champions for Children Award.

Cape Vikings Pop Warner signups begin April 22
Cape Vikings Pop Warner will open signups for the 2022 football and cheerleading season Friday, April 22. Registration will take place online.
Cape Vikings Pop Warner offers sideline cheerleading and tackle football programs for kids 5-13 from August through November. Cape Vikings Pop Warner is a part of the Henlopen Conference within the Eastern Region Division governed by the National Pop Warner Organization.
Pop Warner is the leading program that promotes youth football and cheer and dance programs for participants across the United States and in several countries around the world. The mission of Pop Warner Little Scholars is to enable young people to benefit from participation in team sports and activities in a structured environment. Through this active participation, Pop Warner programs teach fundamental values, skills and knowledge that young people will use throughout their lives.
Cape Vikings Pop Warner has been in the Cape community for many years, with the 2021 season being one of the most successful for participation rate and team achievements.
Registration is $250 and includes uniform fees. Roster space is limited and signups will continue through May 31. If registered prior to May 1, participants will receive a $50 discount on registration fees. Practice will begin for both cheer and football Aug. 1.

Cape Vikings Pop Warner is a not-for-profit organization that will also seek community sponsorships for the 2022 season. Genealogical society to meet April 23
Sussex County Genealogical Society will meet at 10 a.m., Saturday, April 23, via Zoom. Debra Hoffman, PLCGS, will present Religious Sources: Denominations, Records and Methodology. Specializing in Maryland and German research, Hoffman is a professional genealogist and the owner of Hoffman Genealogical Services. Living history return to Fort Miles April 23
Delaware Defense Day living history events will be held from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., Saturday, April 23, at Fort Miles. Attendees will travel back in time with the uniformed re-enactors of the Harbor Defenses of the Delaware Living History Association, and see artillery demonstrations, historic vehicles and World War II-era equipment. Visitors can also explore the museum, hear live music by the Rehoboth Beach Concert Band, enjoy food from Off the Hook Restaurant Group, and learn about how Delaware is defended today with partners like the Delaware Emergency Management Agency. Rehoboth museum offers homeschool day of discovery April 27
Homeschooled students are invited to visit the Rehoboth Beach Museum between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m., Wednesday, April 27, to enjoy a program created just for homeschool and virtual learning families.
Students will discover the origins of Rehoboth Beach and learn what life was like in a community by the sea. Those interested may bring the whole family; activities are designed to accommodate a variety of ages and abilities. Students can explore exhibits, create their own postcards, embark on a scavenger hunt, enjoy story time and more. Caregivers must remain onsite during the program.
Four learning stations will be available between 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. The estimated total time to complete all four stations is 1.5 hours.

A $5 per child donation is requested. Parking is free. Grove Park is adjacent to the museum for outdoor recreation.

Spring into fitness demos at senior center April 29
The Cape Henlopen Senior Center invites community members ages 50 and above to try out its exercise and dance fitness class demonstrations during a free event from 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., Friday, April 29, at 11 Christian St., Rehoboth Beach. Attendees can sample classes taught at the center and see which ones are right for them.
Classes include cardio drumming, LaBlast Fitness, arthritis exercise, sit and get fit, chair yoga, tai chi, fitness circuit training and line dancing. A light lunch will be served following the program. Registration is required by Monday, April 25; call 302-227-2055. Held in a friendly and relaxed atmosphere, the center’s activities are good for participants’ health, wellness and fitness.
The center is open from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Friday. Older adults may stop by and visit to see what the center can do to brighten up their lives.
