Community Matters 5K in Memory of David Ashby set Aug. 10

Thanks to support from Alex Pires and Highway One LP, Dave’s Dewey Dash is now the Community Matters Foundation 5K in Memory of David Ashby.

Ashby’s family and friends will host the 4th annual memorial 5K to raise awareness of the risks of undiagnosed irregular heartbeat and its link to sudden cardiac death. This year’s race is set for 7:30 a.m., Saturday, Aug. 10, at Northbeach, 125 McKinley Ave., Dewey Beach.

Laura Ashby organized the original event in 2021 to honor her son, a Dewey resident who was only 28 when he died in his sleep of sudden cardiac arrest in October 2019.

Prior fundraising efforts have supported a Dewey Beach beautification project, as well as the purchase of 19 automated external defibrillator machines that were donated to local police, lifeguards and businesses, helping protect nearly 1 million hearts throughout the community.
