Constance H. Pettyjohn, sweet, selfless woman
Constance (Connie) H. Pettyjohn, 75, of Georgetown, passed away peacefully at home Friday, Jan. 19, 2024. After being diagnosed with stage 4 metastatic pancreatic cancer just 22 days prior, Connie continued to battle her illness, under hospice care, while being cared for at home by her family until she gained her much-deserved angel wings.
Connie was born Jan. 8, 1949, to Gladys and Ross Robinson in the home that she grew up in. She was one of eight children. Connie is survived by her son, David Sayre Jr., daughter, Donna Tarr and her fiancé Clay Halfmann; granddaughter, Dayton Tarr; grandson, Devin Tarr and his girlfriend Jordan Brinkley; great-grandpuppy, Cash; sister, Olive Karr; brothers, Mark and Ronnie Robinson; sisters-in-law, Terry Robinson, Denise Robinson and Kim Robinson; cousin, Diane Fleetwood; good friend, Elaine Spicer; and several nieces and nephews. Connie is preceded in death by both her mother and father; aunt, Irene Gray; husband, Arthur Pettyjohn; sister, Carol Evans; brothers, Donald Robinson, C.R. Robinson and Norman “Boo Boo” Robinson; and half-brothers, Jimmy Robinson and George Ross Robinson.
Connie was a loving mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, and friend to many. She can be described as sweet, giving, fun, selfless, hardworking, and strong-willed. Connie graduated from Georgetown High School in 1967. She worked at the DuPont plant in Seaford for two years, where she met her lifelong friend, Elaine. Connie moved to Ohio for a short time, where her son was born, before moving back to Delaware. For over 50 years, Connie cleaned the houses of many families with whom she would remain friends until her death. When she wasn’t cleaning houses, you could find her at Chicken Shack working alongside her sisters, mother and a few others. Connie enjoyed going to the casino, sitting on her back deck, spending time with her family, listening to music, completing word searches, cooking for everyone, and caring for flowers; she had quite a green thumb.
Per Connie’s wishes, she will be cremated. A Celebration of Life will be held at her home for her family and closest friends.
Special recognition to hospice nurses Jessica, Elise, and Tara, who cared for Connie over the last three weeks.
To donate in her honor, hospice donations can be sent to AccentCare Hospice, 220 Continental Drive, Ste. 40, Newark, DE 19713, 302-533-3800.
