Constance Travers Fisher, nurse, community volunteer

June 17, 2024

Constance “Connie” Travers Fisher died peacefully Thursday, June 13, 2024, with her daughters, Cecily and Stephani, at her side.

Connie met her future husband at the Milford Memorial nursery. She was born Sept. 29, 1937. Bill came along a few hours later Sept. 30, 1937. He used to tell the story that he gave her a nickel and said call me when you are 16. Ironically, they met as 16-year-olds back at Milford Memorial Hospital. Connie was a candy striper, and he was an inpatient. The rest is history. They were married for 60 years.

Connie graduated from Memorial Hospital School of Nursing. She worked in public health and substituted as a school nurse. Connie and Bill built Fisher Auto Parts together. Behind the scenes, Connie was the domestic engineer managing the household, helping to raise their daughters, and giving back to the community.

Connie was an exceptional fundraiser. Her dedication and support for Bayhealth was remarkable. She was a charter member of the Friends of Milton Library and Milton Century Club. She supported Milton Historical Society, American Cancer Society, Milton Theatre, Delaware Hospice, and Goshen and Bethel United Methodist churches.

Connie loved to have fun! Connie traveled with her Delaware Diamond gang. She enjoyed the beach, shopping for all members of the family, dancing, and dessert.

Connie was preceded in death by her parents, Conrad and Florence Travers; her husband, William (Bill) Fisher; and her granddaughter, Aly Fisher.

Connie is survived by her daughters, Cecily Fisher (Loretta) and Stephani Jo Richardson (Howard). She was a proud grandmother to Will Richardson and Emily Fisher.

A viewing will be held from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, June 24, at Short Funeral Services, 416 Federal St., Milton. The funeral service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, June 25. Interment will follow at Odd Fellows Cemetery, Milton.
