Cool Spring substation sound wall complete

March 16, 2011

Construction of a sound wall around the Delmarva Power & Light Cool Spring substation’s transformer was completed Feb. 28.

The company is currently testing its effectiveness, said spokesman Matt Likovich, but preliminary results show noise has been significantly reduced compared with a few months ago.

The transformer is operating full-time, around the clock during the testing phase.

Delmarva Power took several measures, including the planting of more trees in a buffer area, to abate sound emanating from the transformer following complaints from nearby residents.
