A crash occurred about 4:48 p.m. Oct. 16 as a 22-year-old Milton woman was driving a 2008 Nissan Altima southbound on Route 1 in the left lane, approaching Cave Neck Road. Delaware State Police Master Cpl. Gary Fournier said a 17-year-old girl from Lewes was driving a 2008 BMW SUV northbound on Route 1, in the left turn lane, attempting to turn onto Cave Neck Road. The 17-year-old failed to remain stopped at the posted stop sign and pulled into the path of the Altima. The driver of the Altima attempted to swerve to the right before hitting the BMW and continued off the road into a ditch on the west side of the road.
The 17-year-old operator was cited for failing to remain stopped. Her name will not be released due to her age.
The driver of the Altima was taken to Beebe Heathcare with non-life-threatening injuries.
