Cub Scout Pack 95 names Pinewood Derby winners

January 31, 2025

The scouts, siblings and leaders of Cub Scout Pack 95 recently participated in the annual Pinewood Derby race at Wesley Church in Georgetown.

The track was set up, the racing decorations were in place and the driver licenses were attached to the lanyards, ready for each driver.  In all, 32 scouts brought in the cars they had designed and built, weighed them in, registered them and placed them on the racetrack.

Another 12 siblings had cars ready to be weighed and registered, as did 10 leaders. Creativity, math, engineering and fun went into all the car designs.

With the hall full of scout spirit, timed heats were held for each den, then siblings and finally leaders.

Certificates were presented to Tiger Scout Keagan Clemons for the most colorful car, Webelos Scout Grady Dickerson for the most patriotic car, Webelos Scout Brody Backman for the best vehicle that was not a car, and Wolf Scout Jack Simpson for the best Scout theme. The Cubmaster’s Pick went to Tiger Scout Kyler Kendrick.

First- and second-place winners, by den, were: Lions Reid Goins and Benjamin Tyre, Tigers Joshua Adams and Logan Baldasano, Wolves Jack Simpson and Jareth Mihalics, Bears Colin Ezell and Keller McCarty, Webelos Clay Beauchamp and Brody Backman, and Arrow of Light Scouts William Monaghan and Alex Ezell. Overall pack winners were Lion Scout Reid Goins, first place; Tiger Scout Jack Simpson, second place; and Bear Scout Colin Ezell, third place.

Organizers thanked all who helped with setup, registration and pit crew duty. Pinewood Derby patches and participation ribbons, along with the trophies for the overall winners, will be presented at the annual Blue/Gold event in March.
