Cynthia Marie Derstine, CNA, devoted church member

September 5, 2024

Cynthia Marie Derstine, fondly known as Cindy, passed away peacefully Saturday, Aug. 31, 2024, in Millsboro. She was born Dec. 6, 1963, in Pennsylvania, beloved daughter of Samuel H. Mood and the late Gloria Fay (Souder) Mood.

After graduating high school, Cindy pursued a career in healthcare, earning her CNA and dedicating 20 years as a CNA at Peter Becker Community in Pennsylvania, and over 25 years at Beebe Healthcare.

Cindy was a devoted member of her church community, where she found great joy in worship and fellowship. She loved attending services at the Community Church of Oak Orchard and actively participated in various church activities such as AGAPE, singing in the choir, and very importantly Vacation Bible School.

Cindy adored anything cat-related, loved purple, and cherished every moment spent with her family and friends. She was a loving aunt to her nieces and nephew, and a proud great-aunt to her great-nephew. Cindy will be remembered for her sweet, kind, and helpful nature, along with her infectious smile. It could light up any room.

Cindy is preceded in death by her mother, Gloria Mood. She is survived by her father, Samuel H. Mood (Cecilia); her sister, Lynne Brumbaugh (Bill); her brother, Jay Mood (Josie); her nephew, Samuel Mood, who is actively serving in the U.S. Marine Corps; her nieces, Jessica Murray (Colby) and Angel Mood; her great-nephew, Camden Murray; her church family; and many dear friends and relatives.

A memorial service to celebrate Cindy's life will be held at noon, Saturday, Oct. 5, at the Community Church of Oak Orchard, with lunch to follow. The family asks those in attendance to wear something purple. Cindy’s memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved her, and she will be deeply missed by her family, friends, and all those whose lives she touched.

In lieu of flowers, contributions in Cynthia’s honor may be sent to the Community Church of Oak Orchard.
