Cynthia R. Hopper, community volunteer
Cynthia Richmond Hopper, 74, of Millsboro, wife of Monte J. Hopper, died Wednesday, July 1, 2015, from complications of acute pancreatitis.
Born June 11, 1941, in Rochester, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Guilford H. and Ruth Richason Richmond. Cindy graduated from Northampton Mass. High School, Class of 1959, and Colby College, Class of 1963. She moved to Avon, Conn. in 1968, where she was a homemaker and community volunteer. She was director of Avon Dollars for Scholars and a member of the Garden Club of Avon. She was active in Republican politics was a member of the Avon Republican Town Committee and served on Avon's Committee on Aging. She was a former director of the Avon Free Public Library.
She had also served on the board of the Connecticut Waterfowl Trust and had been a docent at The Sanctuary in Farmington, Conn. She was a member of the West Avon Congregational Church where she served as a pastoral partner.
She was predeceased by a daughter, Jill A. Hopper, in 1999,
Besides her husband, she is survived by a son, Derek R. Hopper, his wife, Victoria, and grandchildren Alexandra, Matthew and Michael of Ambler, Pa.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, July 9, at the West Avon Congregational Church, 280 Country Club Road, Avon, with the Rev. Steven Savides, First Church of Christ, Farmington, officiating. Burial will be in West Avon Cemetery. Arrangements by Carmon Funeral Home, Avon.
