Dagsboro native comes home to join Brafman Family Dentistry

December 2, 2024

Since 2002, when they opened the doors to Brafman Family Dentistry in Dagsboro, Drs. Wendy and Kevin Brafman have kept locals smiling and healthy.

Having met and earned their doctoral degrees at Baltimore College of Dental Surgery in Baltimore, the couple returned to practice in Sussex County, where Wendy has strong ties and her family has been heavily involved in local education. Although Kevin was not raised locally, he could appreciate all that the area has to offer.

More than two decades later, they welcomed another Dagsboro native, Dr. Ashley Banks, their first associate dentist, to the practice in August 2023.

A familiar face to many, Banks has also been a longtime patient with the Brafmans. Many years ago, she even attended daycare at a learning center in the same building as the dental office, before the practice expanded into that space. Banks said her pleasant experiences as a patient and while shadowing the doctors at Brafman Family Dentistry nurtured her interest in pursuing the profession of dentistry. Her family can trace its lineage in Dagsboro back to the 1700s, and some members were heavily involved in farming throughout the county.

Both Wendy Brafman and Banks graduated from Indian River High School and went on to earn biology degrees at local universities. Wendy obtained her degree from Salisbury University. Banks graduated from University of Delaware and then attended Temple University Kornberg School of Dentistry, earning her doctorate degree in dentistry.

Wendy Brafman’s mother, Dr. Jacquelyn Owens Wilson, has held many leadership roles in the Indian River School District and at the University of Delaware. Her grandfather, Jack Owens, was the campus director of Delaware Technical and Community College Georgetown Campus, which was later renamed the Owens Campus in his honor. Wendy’s father was involved in the poultry industry and was a welder by trade.

Banks and Wendy Brafman take great pride in serving the community where they grew up, and where all three doctors have made their professional homes.
