It may have rained on their parade, but that didn’t stop family and friends from celebrating Daisey Griffin Daniels’ 104th birthday Aug. 9 in Slaughter Neck.
Dozens of cars slowly passed in front of Daniels’ home to wish her the best for another year. Daniels’ children, relatives and friends sat with her inside her screened porch as the parade passed by. Each car’s occupants were given a prepackaged piece of cake and water to help celebrate in a socially distanced way.
Daniels was born Aug. 7, 1917, in Elizabeth City, N.C. She is the mother to 13 children, 11 of whom are still alive.
Sussex County Councilman Mark Schaeffer stopped by to present Daniels with a tribute in honor of her birthday.
