On Sunday, the Philadelphia Eagles were able to beat the Jacksonville Jaguars by the score of 28-23. The score should have been a lot more lopsided. In the third quarter, the score was 22-0, and then the coaching staff made some surprising choices. They took aggressive risks on multiple fourth downs that backfired by not going for easy field goals and extra points. This doesn’t make sense to me considering Eagles kicker Jake Elliott has been one of the most consistent field goal kickers in the NFL for years. Everybody used to criticize former coach Andy Reid for his clock management when he was a young coach, and Nick Sirianni is just as bad as he was.
Saquon Barkley continued his great start this season. He had an amazing play in the third-quarter where he jumped backwards over a Jacksonville player. Definitely not something I have ever seen before.
The Eagles have a significant opportunity this week to end the Dallas Cowboys’ hopes for the playoffs. The Cowboys are currently 3-5 and have been terrible. To make things worse, their quarterback, Dak Prescott, will not be playing for a while because of a significant hamstring injury.
The 1-6 record for the Philadelphia 76ers season can’t get much worse. Joel Embiid hasn’t played yet this season. The good news is he is supposedly coming back from his knee injury on Tuesday after his three-game suspension is over. Paul George has just started to play and it was just announced that Tyrese Maxey will be out a couple weeks with a hamstring injury as well. Other than Andre Drummond, the 76ers are a very small team when Joel Embiid does not play. So they desperately need Embiid to play well right off the bat if they want to save this season. I definitely did not expect to be saying this after just two weeks.
Good luck to the Cape Henlopen football team under the Friday night lights. I hope they can make the playoffs for the second year in a row. And good luck to the field hockey team as well. Go Cape!
