Daniel J. Kortan Sr., veteran, Boeing retiree
Daniel J. Kortan Sr., 90, of Lewes, formerly of Upper Darby, passed away Monday, April 8, 2024. Dan served in the U.S. Marines and Marine Corps Reserves from March 8, 1952 to March 7, 1960.
He worked as a residential electrician in Delaware County for many years until joining the Boeing company as a plant electrician. He retired from Boeing in 1999 and moved to Lewes in 2000. Dan was a member of the Marine Corps League Detachment 704 and Cape Henlopen Elks Lodge 2540. He was fond of watching old movies and TV shows, and spending time with his retired buddies in the community.
Dan was preceded in death by his only daughter, Marcia Smith, in 2018; and by his wife of 66 years, Mary Lou Kortan, in 2022. Survivors include his children, Daniel (Sue) Kortan Jr., Charles "Chuck” (Margaret) Kortan and Paul Kortan; his son-in-law, Tom Smith; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:30 a.m., Monday, April 15, at Toppitzer Funeral Home, Drexel Hill, Pa., where friends may call after 10:30 a.m. Interment will be at Arlington Cemetery, Drexel Hill.
