The National Society of the Daughters of the American Revolution Col. David Hall Chapter gathered Memorial Day in Lewes to honor their namesake, as well as all service members who have perished in defense of the country.
The annual ceremony takes place at the gravesite of Lewes Revolutionary War hero Col. David Hall (1752-1817), who is buried in the Lewes Presbyterian Church cemetery. Col. Hall led the Delaware Regiment in the battles of Brandywine and Germantown, where he was wounded. He was a successful lawyer, politician and judge who served as Delaware governor from 1802-05.
Children, Daughters and Sons of the American Revolution members joined with representatives from the General Society of the War of 1812 to lay wreaths at the gravesite.
Local DAR members Patricia Hass, regent; Barbara Schaut, chaplain; Jennifer Horsley, vice regent; and Kitty Schrader, parliamentarian and senior national vice president of the Eastern Region Children of the American Revolution, took part in the ceremony. Invited guests included Barbara Seningen, DAR Delaware State Society; Sen. Russ Huxable, D-Lewes; Sussex County Councilman Mark Schaeffer; and Lewes Mayor Andrew Williams.
Wreath presenters included Jillian Roth, DAR state president; Kevin Rolph, past state president; Patricia Hass, Col. David Hall Chapter regent; Barbara Seningen, regent; Dennis Schrader, president, Delaware Society of the Sons of the American Revolution; William Regli, president, Delaware General Society of the War of 1812; and Michael Fritz, president of the Sons of the American Revolution Caesar Rodney Chapter.
