DART First State held an open house at the Lewes Transit Center May 20. The first phase of the Lewes Transit Center project is complete, with a 248-space Park & Ride with security cameras, bicycle racks, electric car charging stations and many passenger amenities, including a ticket booth.
DART also released an app, “DART Transit,” for route information and “DARTPass Delaware” to pay fares with a cell phone.
Local and state officials who came to the open house were pleased with the new travel options in the Cape Region. As the busy summer tourism season begins, DART’s daily Beach Bus service will be hitting the streets in full force, serving Rehoboth Beach and the Boardwalk, Lewes, Long Neck, Dewey Beach, Bethany Beach, South Bethany, Fenwick Island, Ocean City, Md., Millsboro and Georgetown.
Buses will operate frequently from early morning to late night, seven days a week, until Sept. 8. All buses are air-conditioned, ADA accessible and equipped with bike racks.
