David S. Wick, foreign service officer

David S. Wick, 73, of Lewes, passed away Sunday, March 6, 2016, at his home. He was born March 10, 1942, in Herkimer, N.Y., son of the late Herbert S. and Katherine (Janeka) Wick.

Mr. Wick was a 1960 graduate of Kenmore West Senior High School in Kenmore, N.Y. Immediately after his graduation, he joined the U.S. Marines, proudly serving his country. Following his honorable discharge, Mr. Wick embarked on a lifelong career as a foreign service officer with the United States Department of State, serving multiple countries, including Iraq, Trinidad, Kenya, Thailand, Ukraine, and most recently Lebanon. He retired in 2004 after 40-plus of dedicated years.

Mr. Wick was a member of the American Legion Post 17 in Lewes, The National Society of the Sons of the American Revolution and Lewes Yacht Club. He was an avid Buffalo Bills fan and during his leisure time loved hiking and biking. Most of all, he cherished time spent with his family. Mr. Wick will be remembered for his wonderful sense of humor by all who knew him.

Mr. Wick is survived by his loving wife of 47 years, Nadine Wick of Lewes; a son, Ryan Wick of Washington, D.C.; a daughter, Kelly Simpson of Loudoun, Va.; two granddaughters: Chloe and Brooke Simpson both of Loudoun; two sisters: Karen Dwonzanski and her husband Ray, of Tonawanda, N.Y., Judy Richard and her husband Jim, of Richmond, Va.; and son-in-law, Brian Simpson of Loudoun.

Friends may visit Saturday, March 12, from 10 a.m. until noon, at Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Atkins-Lodge Chapel, 16961 Kings Highway, Lewes. Interment with military honors will be held at a later date at Arlington National Cemetery.

Memorial contributions may be made in Mr. Wick's memory to the VITAS Hospice Charitable Fund, 100 Commerce Drive, Suite 302, Newark, DE 19713.
