Deborah Shumar Adams, devout Christian, teacher
Deborah “Debbie” Shumar Adams, 75, passed away Tuesday, Oct. 8, 2024, at AccentCare Hospice in Christiana. She was born May 13, 1949, daughter of Samuel and Katherine (Dunning) Shumar. Debbie was a longtime member of Avery United Methodist Church, Morgantown, W.Va., and an associate member of Bethel United Methodist Church in Lewes, where she assisted with the children’s choir and rang in the bell choir. Debbie loved the beach and was a passionate sports fan of West Virginia University Mountaineers.
Debbie spent 42 years engaging young minds as an early childhood education teacher. Debbie taught in North Carolina and West Virginia, and finished her career in Lake Forest North Elementary. Debbie was passionate about developing young minds. Debbie was a devoted daughter, mother, grandmother, sister, and friend.
She is survived by her daughter, Andrea Davis and her fiancé Ernie DuPont of Morgantown, W.Va.; her son, Scott Adams and wife Hillary of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; her three grandchildren, Alexander Davis and Alizabeth Davis of Morgantown, and Chloe Adams of Bruceton Mills, W.Va.; sister, Barbara Shumar of Hummelstown, Pa.; aunt, Janet Reed of Magnolia; and many nieces, nephews, and cousins.
A visitation will be held from 7 to 9 p.m., Monday, Oct. 14, at Pippin Funeral Home, 119 W. Camden-Wyoming Ave., Wyoming. A service will be held at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 15, at the funeral home. Interment will immediately follow at Barratt’s Chapel Cemetery, Bay Road, Frederica.
