Del Tech baseball continues play in NJCAA tourney

The Delaware Tech baseball team went 1-1 in the NJCAA Region 19 tournament May 6 in Georgetown.

Delaware Tech defeated County College of Morris 4-3 in the first game.

Ethan Watkinson (Sussex Central) led the way, going 2-for-5 with an RBI. Jonathan Golebiowski (Delaware Military Academy) collected an RBI. Sam Courtney (Dover) and Hunter Rauch (Cape Henlopen) added two hits, while Chris Friend (Caesar Rodney) garnered a hit.

Zach Hart went seven innings, striking out seven while allowing one walk. Brandon Schlabach (Delmarva Christian) came in from the bullpen for two innings.

In the second game, Del Tech fell to Lackawanna 10-5 in 10 innings.

Rauch led the Del Tech squad, going 4-for-5 with two RBIs. Matt Rodriguez (Delmar) went 2-for-4 with two RBIs. Courtney went 1-for-5 with an RBI. Chase Boyle (Sussex Central), Javon Toppin (Sussex Central) and Mike Pagliei (Brandywine) each had a hit.

Riley Culver (Delmarva Christian) went six innings on the mound, striking out four while giving up four earned runs. Zac Cole (Lake Forest) pitched 3.2 innings, striking out two and allowing five earned runs. Schlabach pitched in the 10th inning.

George Castro led Lackawanna with three RBIs. Cody Fleischer and Quinn Hanifen each knocked in two runs. Daniel Keenan and Cole Casamento each picked up an RBI.

Due to the inclement weather Saturday, the tournament has been postponed until Monday, May 9, when Delaware Tech will play Mercer County College at 3 p.m. in Georgetown. If Delaware Tech wins, the championship game against Lackawanna College would be played at noon, Tuesday, May 10, and, if necessary, the deciding game would be at 3 p.m.

“It’s one game at a time,” said Del Tech head coach Stu Madden. “Every game is must-win.”
