The Delaware Tech baseball squad moved to 29-6 on the season with a doubleheader 11-3, 3-1 victory over Mercer April 23 in Georgetown.
In the first game, Chris Friend (Caesar Rodney) went yard and doubled, delivering three RBIs. Ethan Watkinson (Sussex Central) had a homer and three RBIs. Hunter Rauch (Cape Henlopen), Jonathon Golebiowski (Delaware Military Academy), Matt Rodriguez (Delmar) and Mike Pagilei (Brandywine) each knocked in a run.
Pitcher Zach Hart (St. Georges Tech) went the distance, facing 29 batters and giving up three earned runs while striking out three.
In the second game, Friend stayed in the zone at the plate, going yard in the second inning, knocking in three runs. That was all Del Tech needed, as they took a 3-1 win.
Riley Culver (Delmarva Christian) went the distance on the mound, scattering five hits while striking out four Vikings.
“We don’t give away games,” said Tech manager Stu Madden. “Everybody in our lineup can hit and we play very good defense. We have a bunch of guys who want to win.”
The Del Tech team will travel to the County College of Morris Saturday, April 30. The doubleheader will determine if Del Tech has home field advantage in the Region 19 playoffs.
Del Tech honored its sophomores before the game.
