Del Tech softball wins two against CCBC Catonsville

Squad to host Region 19 playoffs in May
April 25, 2022

The Del Tech softball team needed only to win one game from CCBC Catonsville April 23 to host the Region 19 tournament as the No. 1 seed. They did that and more, as they defeated the Cardinals 14-0 and 10-1 to garner the top spot on their home field.

They are now 22-2 on the season.

In the first game, Carlin Quinn (Cape Henlopen) went 3-for-3 with three RBIs. Jenna Donovan (Middletown) went 2-for-3 with three RBIs. Jada Courtney (Caesar Rodney) delivered a 3-for-3 performance, including a triple with an RBI. Macey Myers (Milford) slugged two doubles and scored two runs. Logan Walls (Delmar) hit a double, a single, and knocked in a run. Kylie Krugar (Sussex Tech) hit two singles and an RBI. Kandice Schlabach (Delmarva Christian) went 2-for-2, knocking in a run. Colleen Cosbey (Sussex Tech) had an RBI. Kaniah James (Cape Henlopen) went 1-for-4.

Lauren Smith (Snow Hill) picked up her ninth win of the season, striking out seven batters while giving up just three hits in the five-inning contest.

“My curveball was the highlight of the win for me,” she said. “It allowed me to strike out some of my opponents while my defense backed me up with great fielding. Our offense helped secure the win with how hot our bats have been recently.”

In the second game, the Del Tech batters picked up where they left off, scoring a 10-1 victory behind nine hits.

Myers delivered a double as part of a three-RBI game. Couri Smith (Laurel) went 3-for-3 with two RBIs. James had a double, a single and an RBI, while Walls went 2-for-2 with a sacrifice and an RBI. Kruger hit a double and knocked in a run. Quinn had a sac fly to score a run.

Tori Henry (Sussex Tech) pitched three innings, striking out one, while Carly Collins (Sussex Central) threw two innings, striking out three.

Del Tech will travel to Camden County College Friday, April 29, to play the Cougars before returning home to play Northampton Saturday, April 30.
