The Daughters of the American Revolution Delaware State Regent Dr. Gloria Lester presented a check for $9,700 to Catholic Charities’ Casa San Francisco June 30, as part of her State Regent’s Project.
A worthy charitable social service organization in Milton, Casa San Francisco provides a wide variety of services aimed at helping low-income residents in Sussex County.
The generous contributions of the Delaware DAR members plus the sale of the State Regent’s Starfish pin helped make this project successful. During the early days of the pandemic, the Delaware Daughters also made masks for Casa San Francisco, and sometimes donated baked goods and clothing.
The Daughters of the American Revolution is a service organization with lineage-based membership. Members are direct descents of patriots who provided support to the American Colonies during the Revolutionary War. The mission of the organization is historic preservation, patriotism and education.
Each state regent selects a project to support during her three-year administration and may conduct various fundraisers to raise money for a chosen project.
Casa San Francisco supplies emergency shelter and three daily meals for up to 12 adults for approximately 30 days. Case managers work with each resident to locate a source of income or employment and affordable housing. They also help with medication, laundry, clothing and transportation. The food cooperative supplies supplemental bags of groceries for families, individuals and seniors. Case managers help clients develop and implement a plan that will focus on wellness and a stable life situation. Casa also distributes gift cards for school supplies and Christmas gifts for children. Many veterans also utilize some services and are linked to other supportive services specifically for veterans.
Last year, 58 persons found shelter at Casa San Francisco. Clients are referred internally to Catholic Charities’ basic needs, immigration and behavioral health programs for additional support services as needed.
