Delaware driver’s license federally compliant ID deadline Oct. 1

Upgrade requires trip to DMV
January 28, 2020

Delaware driver’s license and ID holders are being asked to check whether they have a gold star in the top right corner of their credentials. If a gold star is not there, a credential is not Real ID federally compliant.

Beginning Thursday, Oct. 1, anyone who does not have a federally compliant credential will not be able to board a domestic flight without carrying additional identifying information. They may also be denied access to federal buildings and more.

Those whose credentials have a gold star in the top right corner are among the 72 percent of Delaware residents who hold a Real ID credential that meets all standards for federal compliance.

To upgrade a driver’s license or identification card credential, Delawareans must go to the Division of Motor Vehicles.

For a complete list of acceptable documentation and more information, go to secureid.dmv.de.gov.

In Sussex County, the DMV is at 23737 DuPont Blvd., Georgetown, and hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Friday, and 12 to 8 p.m., Wednesday.
