Delaware resume expert earns national certification

Credential held by fewer than 75 people in U.S.

Local resume writer and career coach Dan Shortridge has become one of fewer than 75 people in the United States and the first in Delaware to earn a Nationally Certified Resume Writer credential.

“The last two years have shown us that workers are more in charge of their careers than ever and need to treat them like a business,” said Shortridge, founder of ResultsResumes.org. “You should always be looking for a new opportunity, because you never know when or where it will come from.”

The NCRW status is awarded by the National Resume Writers’ Association, a nonprofit organization that promotes best practices and standards for professional resume writers. The certification process includes crafting sample resumes, completing educational programs, passing a test, and completing a timed resume and cover letter project as a rigorous final exam.

Shortridge, of Dover, works with clients to create results-oriented resumes that focus on their accomplishments and achievements, showing exactly what a job candidate can do for a new employer.

“I most enjoy helping people tell their career stories to advance their goals,” said Shortridge. “Giving someone the maximum advantage in their job search is extremely rewarding.”

He applies his experience as a former journalist, and as a hiring manager in the public and private sectors to delve into a client’s career and provide insights on what an employer is looking for.

Shortridge has written a free guide to help State of Delaware job candidates simplify the application process and increase their chances of getting an interview; it’s available at resultsresumes.org/statejobs. He also curates a weekly statewide marketing and communications jobs list.
