Delaware Snapshot: Rollin’ On The River

Steamboats do big business in the spring of 1926 along the river at Wilmington, where Captain Horace Wilson began the Wilmington Steamboat Company in 1881. His city-based service – later called the Wilson Line – mainly carries passengers between Wilmington, Pennsgrove, N.J., Chester, Pa., and Philadelphia. But service to New Jersey’s Riverview Beach Park, lasting until 1961, draws crowds said to be “the biggest ever seen on the Delaware.”
