Delaware SPCA, PetSmart Charities partner to offer low-cost neuter program

Services cost just $20 in January for male dogs, cats
December 23, 2014

Pet owners are asked to make a new year’s resolution to neuter their male dog or cat during the Delaware SPCA’s Happy Neuter Year campaign sponsored by PetSmart Charities. The campaign provides $20 neuter surgeries for male dogs and cats in January.

Spaying and neutering are the most effective ways to reduce the homeless pet population; the procedures are safe for puppies and kittens as young as 8 to 10 weeks old, according to the American Veterinary Medical Association.

“Neutering male pets is a simple surgery that reduces unwanted behaviors like roaming, fighting, and urine-marking territories,” says Dr. Jen Scheidt, Delaware SPCA. “It also guarantees your dog or cat never fathers a litter of puppies or kittens.”

This special $20 rate is even less than the organization’s normal low-cost price and is available to all residents of Delaware. Pet parents who wish to take advantage of this offer must mention the Happy Neuter Year campaign when they schedule their appointment. This campaign is based on availability.

The Delaware SPCA will provide 100 Happy Neuter Year sterilizations for $20 in January. Go to www.delspca.org or call 302-998-2281 in Newark or 302-856-6361 in Georgetown for more information or to schedule an appointment.

PetSmart Charities’ Happy Neuter Year campaign provides more than $713,624 to spay/neuter clinics to fund affordable, high-quality spay and neuter surgeries for 16,585 male dogs and cats across the nation during the month of January.
