Delaware Watercolor Society sets virtual workshop Jan. 17-19

January 4, 2024

Fresh and Exciting Watercolors, a three-day workshop facilitated by David R. Smith, will be held from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Wednesday to Friday, Jan.  17 to 19, via Zoom.

Smith will teach the most valuable watercolor concepts and techniques.

Presented by the Delaware Watercolor Society, the workshop will save attendees countless hours of trial and error by demonstrating approaches in an easily understood manner that will open new doors of discovery and creativity.

Participants will have access to reference photos, drawing guides, typed outlines and step-by-step instruction through all stages of the painting process. The workshop is packed with demos and guided practice. Regardless of attendees’ level of experience, whether the subject matter is a city scene, landscape, floral or still life, they will leave with a handsome work of art, and the skills, concepts and confidence to take their paintings to a higher level.

Smith will demonstrate a wide variety of techniques, including wet-on-wet, spattering and spraying. He will show how to link shapes in a composition based on values, while also considering edge quality of shapes, the importance of different paint consistencies, and the different moisture qualities of paper. These concepts and approaches will keep participants’ paintings fresh with exciting blends and textures, and keep students inspired and eager to explore their new watercolor capabilities well into the future.

The cost is $250 for DWS members and $300 for nonmembers.

Attendance is limited 25 registrants. If needed, a waiting list will be maintained.
