Delaware women’s clubs receive honors

The General Federation of Women’s Clubs Delaware State Federation of Women’s Clubs recently held an awards caravan and its 124th annual convention.

The second annual awards caravan was held April 27, 28 and 29. DSFWC President Rita Hollada of the Selbyville Community Club and Dean of Programs Jan Conant visited each of Delaware’s three counties and presented awards to clubs and members. Hollada thanked the clubs and their members for the many projects, hours volunteered, donations and in-kind gifts during 2020 in spite of the many restrictions imposed by COVID-19. She said the clubs were creative in their activities including fundraising.

The 124th annual convention was a one-day event held May 12 at Wild Quail Golf and Country Club in Camden-Wyoming with Hollada presiding. Deb Strahanoski, GFWC president-elect, addressed the group. She congratulated the clubs on their flexibility and successes during the pandemic restrictions.

The winner of the GFWC DSFWC Scholarship was Mariela Hernandez-Mejia from Sussex Central High School.

The new President-Elect is Trish Rodriguez from the GFWC Federation Guild.

Susan Carla Pyle, Women’s Club of Odessa, received the Jennie Award, the highest individual award given by GFWC.

DSFWC is a member of GFWC, an international women’s organization dedicated to community improvement by enhancing the lives of others through volunteer service.
