DelDOT officials to address Sussex Preservation Coalition March 12

March 6, 2024

One of the hottest topics in coastal Sussex County – traffic – will be the focus of the Sussex Preservation Coalition meeting set for 7 to 8:30 p.m., Tuesday, March 12, at the Lewes Public Library and via Zoom.

State transportation officials will provide updates and insight into the planning process. People who plan to attend the free event either in person or online should email spcde.org@gmail.com to register.

Delaware Department of Transportation officials attending the session will be Pam Steinebach, director of planning; Sarah Coakley, principal planner for statewide and regional systems; and Todd Sammons, assistant director of development coordination.

Among the questions to be discussed are: How do the county and the state coordinate infrastructure plans for growth? What does a traffic-impact study include, as well as the Coastal Corridor Study? What projects are on the horizon for Sussex County, including improvements to Route 9 and the DelDOT-Capital Transportation Program?

The coalition also will provide updates on two proposed projects. Cool Spring Crossing is a 637-acre development with 727 single-family homes, 911 townhomes, 300 condominiums and 451,000 square feet of commercial space. Northstar is a 433-acre development with 758 single-family home lots, 94 multifamily units of affordable housing and 96,000 square feet of commercial space.
