October 12, 2015

Delia Mitchell left this world in peace and contentment Thursday, Oct. 8, 2015. She passed away at the Cadbury Health Care Center in Lewes.

Mrs. Mitchell was born in Orange County, Va., Jan. 18, 1915, at her family’s ancestral home, Green Level.

For 15 years she had resided in Lewes, and for the last two years at Cadbury Health Care Center. She was a member of Saint Peter’s Episcopal Church, Lewes.

Mrs. Mitchell worked for the Library of Congress/Catalogue Division, for more than 26 years, retiring March 20, 1970. She was always fond of saying she has been retired longer than she worked.

She is predeceased by her mother and father, Woodson Pannill and Nannie Waller Pannill; her husband, Horace Guy Mitchell; and her brother and sister-in-law, Dandridge and Polly Pannill of West Chester, Pa.

She is survived by numerous cousins, including Mike Clemmer of Lewes, Jerry Clemmer and his wife Dreama of Stuarts Draft, Va. and Lucinda Baily of Kingsport, Tenn. She is also survived by a very close and dear friend, Wendell Alfred; and many others who knew and loved her as “Aunt Dee.”

“Aunt Dee” attributed her longevity to not worrying, remaining close to family and friends and having faith in her physician.

Memorial Services will be held Saturday, Oct. 17, at 11 a.m., at St. Peter's Episcopal Church, where friends may visit beginning at 10 a.m. Entombment will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are suggested in care of St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, P.O. Box 464, Lewes, DE 19958.
