Delmarva Christian Athletics Hall of Fame holds inductions
Delmarva Christian Schools inducted four new honorees into its Athletics Hall of Fame Dec. 14.
New members of the hall are Lewis Gebhart, Christie (Betts) Mullett, the 2006 boys’ soccer team and the 2007 girls’ volleyball team.
The ceremony featured inspiring words from former coach and Athletic Director Jeff “Moose” Mohr, former coach and Athletic Director Jim Berger, Head of School Matt Kwiatkowski, Athletic Director Matt McGinnis and former coach Heather Desiderio. Each speaker celebrated the inductees’ achievements and their enduring impact on the DCHS community.
Representatives from each team – David Betts, Toné King, Natalie (Painter) Fowler and Tara (Munro) Hoyt – and the individual inductees shared heartfelt memories, honoring the lessons of teamwork, perseverance and faith learned during their time at Delmarva Christian.
Lewis Gebhart
Lewis, a 2007 graduate and member of the third DCHS graduating class, was a three-sport standout in soccer, basketball and lacrosse. Lewis earned first team all-conference honors across all three sports, claimed MVP titles in 2005, and became the school’s first Outstanding Male Athlete honoree. Beyond his athletic prowess, he excelled academically as a National Honor Society member and honor roll student. Lewis’s enduring commitment to community and faith continues through his involvement in worship ministry and A Father’s Heart Ministry in Laurel.
Christie (Betts) Mullett
Christie, a 2012 graduate, left an indelible mark on Royals athletics as an all-state field hockey goalie and multiyear MVP. Named the third-best goalie in Delaware during her senior year, Christie also excelled in basketball, lacrosse and soccer, earning the title of Outstanding Female Athlete in 2012. Now a registered nurse, Christie serves faithfully at her church and leads its deliverance ministry, exemplifying the values instilled during her time at DCHS.
2006 boys’ soccer
The 2006 boys’ soccer team achieved a milestone as the first soccer team in DCHS history to qualify for the Delaware state tournament. The squad’s remarkable 10-5-1 season and recognition with the Delaware Soccer Officials Association Sportsmanship Award reflected not only their athletic success but also their integrity and character.
The 2007 girls’ volleyball
The 2007 girls’ volleyball team made history as the first volleyball team to secure a spot in the Delaware state tournament. With an impressive 11-5 record and seven 3-0 sweep victories, they established a foundation of excellence for future Royals teams.
