Delmarva Power planning power line project in Milton

Construction scheduled to begin this spring
May 6, 2024

Delmarva Power is planning a system reliability project aimed at improving service in Milton and the surrounding area.

Construction on the project is expected to begin this spring and be completed by early 2025.

The project includes rebuilding six miles of distribution line in the areas of Milton, Ellendale, Lincoln and Milford. Plans also call for a new five-mile line that would provide backup electrical feeds to customers in the areas of Milton and Ellendale, which will include work on both overhead and underground lines. Work will take place on parts of Old State Road, Route 16 and Mulberry Street in downtown Milton.

Delmarva Power officials say the project will improve reliability for more than 3,100 customers, reduce the frequency and duration of power outages, modernize infrastructure and strengthen the local electrical grid.

Currently, Ellendale and Milton are served by single electricity sources from separate locations. Any loss of power in either community would affect the entire town, Delmarva Power officials said. With the new five-mile line, Delmarva Power can reduce the duration and frequency of power outages.

The additional six miles of power lines Delmarva Power is planning to rebuild are older and are in need of replacement.

Milton Mayor John Collier said, “The Delmarva Power project has two main aspects. Initially, it involves enhancing the reliability of Delmarva Power services within Milton's corporate limits. Additionally, they will be upgrading the street lighting on Mulberry Street with new and improved LED fixtures. Minor traffic disruptions may occur during their work."
