DelMed Health welcomes nurse midwife

July 1, 2014

Carrie Sz. Keane, certified nurse midwife, has joined DelMed Health in Lewes to begin a new midwifery service. She will see women's health clients of all ages for annual gynecological examinations; Pap smear screenings; contraception counseling; sexually transmitted disease detection; and prenatal, labor and birth services.

Keane has been working in Sussex and Kent counties for 10 years and comes to DelMed Health after delivering more than 1,000 babies at Beebe Healthcare.

She also works at Planned Parenthood in Dover providing women's healthcare to underserved clients.

A native of Pittsburgh, Pa., Keane received her bachelor of arts degree in journalism and English from the University of Maryland in College Park. Upon graduation, she volunteered as a courier and midwifery assistant for the Frontier Nursing Service, the original midwifery service in the U.S., in the Appalachian mountains of Hyden, Ky.

She then earned a National Health Service Corps scholarship to attend Yale University, where she graduated with a master of science degree in nurse midwifery and a certification from the American College of Nurse Midwives. She is presently a member of The Association of Clinicians for the Underserved.

Keane and her husband moved to Delaware to be closer to family. When not working, they enjoy spending time in their garden; with their dogs, cats and chickens; hiking; traveling; cooking; and concert-going.

DelMed Health is at 431 Savannah Road, Lewes, across the street from Beebe Healthcare. Call 302-644-9080.
