Delores Ann Tharp, vibrant, warm person
Delores Ann Tharp of Newark, 79, passed away Wednesday, April 29, 2020. Ann was born in Chestertown, Md., to the late Angelo and Ruth Varsico.
She spent several summers as a child on her grandparents’ farm and graduated from William Penn High School in 1958, and held a variety of jobs from dental assistant to Avon employee before marrying Allen Tharp in 1960.
Ann (as she preferred to be called) was a vibrant and warm person, doting on her many grandchildren and great-grandchildren, and known for her excellent Sicilian cooking and her wit. She was an avid reader and excellent card player, affectionately nicknamed "Flopsie" by her devoted husband. Ann helped significantly in raising several of her grandchildren while enjoying baking cookies for all of them, and was beloved as "MomMom." She and her husband enjoyed a beach home in the Long Neck area for several years.
Family was of the utmost importance to her and many cherished memories are of the many dinners she cooked. She travelled to Nashville several times with her husband, and was fond of playing the slots. She never lost her ability to laugh and the times spent with her are among the most precious in the hearts of everyone she touched and left behind.
Ann's husband, William A. Tharp Sr., passed away in March 2014. She is survived by three children, Bill, Randy and Melanie; as well as seven grandchildren, William, Heather, Amanda, Michael, Bobby, Olivia and Angelina; five great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Bob and Kenny. She also leaves many treasured friends.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations be made to Cancer Care Connections, www.cancercareconnection.org.
Services and burial will be held privately.
