Democrats have ruined Delaware

May 31, 2024

I can't help but respond to the letter about Mike Ramone.

The letter writer is another Democrat in New Castle that will continue the destruction of the county and keep the schools down! Mike Ramone and his family are quality people. I had the pleasure of coaching Mike's son in basketball in his eighth-grade year. Mike has served the Pike Creek district well. He's a successful business owner, and I am happy that he is running for governor!

He is what Delaware needs to get Delaware back in shape. New Castle County has been run by Democrats for more than 18 years, and in the 30-plus years I've lived in New Castle County, I've witnessed the decline. Too many charter schools, too many golf courses, too much misspent money! We have a governor who served eight years and didn't do anything for the City of Wilmington, but now he wants to be the mayor? Can't any of these people survive in a private-sector job?

It just seems they are afraid to get out of that government job. Look at Kathy McGuiness and others. Biden has been in a government job his whole working life. They all do the fear speech. Democracy is on the ballot? Yes, it is, and now is the time to select the democracy you want. Do you want the democracy of being told no gas cars, no gas cooking ranges? Turbines in the ocean? The people of Delaware didn't get a vote on those things. If the voluntary school assessment was approved in Sussex County, you would be on the hook for a $36 million swimming hole that someone could hang their name on the side! Yes, democracy is on the ballot. I can see why Mike is moving to Dewey. New Castle is done! Why do you think the reassessment is taking place? New Castle and the state are looking for revenue! So if you're retired and living in a home worth $500,000 or greater and are only paying $800 per year in school and property taxes, that is coming to an end. So when you vote in November, study the candidate. Because what kind of democracy we have is on the ballot, especially when people who haven't lived in Delaware for 15 years wants to change the constitution! Sussex and Kent are special counties, and I hope they can withstand the crazy changes that are on the horizon.

Editor’s note: The statewide reassessment is a result of a lawsuit filed by the NAACP of Delaware and Delawareans for Educational Opportunity, which claimed the lack of consistent reassessments had denied adequate funding for Delaware schools, particularly those serving disadvantaged students.
