Despite cancer and COVID, Cape May author publishes third book

February 4, 2022

Cape May, N.J. resident and author Eugene DeGeorge’s third book, “Waiting for the Train,” was recently published. It includes poems written during 2020 and 2021 as well as others written in the past.

"I try to get beyond pop culture and deal with issues of the human condition when I sit down to write," said DeGeorge.

The poems include themes on the transition from utter alienation to redemption and reconnection, and offer a chance of introspection and renewed purpose.

DeGeorge, a current stage-four cancer survivor, also dealt with a concerning bout of COVID-19 due to his immunocompromised state. This experience empowered him to get the third book published, and he hopes his poetry and stories will be his legacy.

Knowing a lot of work he has written over his lifetime is now being published is his way of living on through his words.

"Fighting cancer for over 20 years and then overcoming COVID-19 only strengthened my resolve to leave a legacy that will endure and help others through my words," said DeGeorge.
