Dewey P&Z recommends freeboard, flood-proofing ordinances
The Dewey Beach Planning & Zoning Commission held a public hearing and meeting Feb. 4, when they discussed draft ordinances regarding freeboard and dry flood-proofing of commercial structures.
There was no public comment.
The commission recommended a draft ordinance with revised clarifying language to town council that would amend town code and permit property owners in flood zones to add 1 foot of additional freeboard with a corresponding increase of 1 foot in maximum building height.
The ordinance has been a previous subject of discussion for the commission and several committees, including charter and code.
The commission also recommended to town council a draft ordinance to amend town code that outlines the dry flood-proofing requirements for nonresidential buildings. The ordinance aims to fully align the language in town code with its 2-foot freeboard requirement.
