Diana F. Riley, devoted Bethel Church member

April 19, 2024

Diana F. Riley, 78, of Lewes, passed away peacefully at her residence Tuesday, April 16, 2024. She was born in Lewes Jan. 14, 1946, daughter of the late Joseph M. Sr. and Margaret M. (Massey) Futcher.

Diana graduated from Lewes High School in 1964. She worked her entire life, starting in banking, and later worked as an office administrator at several medical practices until she retired in 2015.

Diana was the cornerstone of Bethel United Methodist Church, and faith was a pillar in her life. She was always one to volunteer when help was needed. Diana was a vital staple within Bethel. She was the altar committee chair since 1976 and was the communion coordinator until just this past February.  She was an instrumental part of the candlelight services through the years.  Diana was also the recording secretary for Allen when he was the trustee chairperson. In the late 1970s, she helped create the Young Adults Group. Diana and Allen cooked and prepared many dinners and breakfasts for the Methodist Men’s Group throughout the years. Diana loved Bethel.

Whether sharing stories of the past, attending church, or simply enjoying the company of her loved ones, Diana’s presence was a source of warmth and wisdom.

Diana’s life was a tapestry of dedication, service, and love. As we remember Diana, we celebrate a life well-lived and a journey well-traveled. Her memory will be held in the hearts of those who knew her, and her spirit will continue to inspire us all.

In addition to her parents, Diana was preceded in death by her husband and soulmate of 35 years, Allen E. Riley. She is survived by her daughter, Deena Eskew (Brian “Hoss” Coddens); two stepsons, Charles Riley (Patricia) and Mark Riley (Alicia Purdy); three grandchildren, Chase Riley, Bethany Riley and Luke Riley; her brother, Joseph M. Futcher Jr. (Catherine Stango); and three nephews, Mike Riley, Tyler Graves and Hunter Graves.
