Diane Elizabeth Girton, longtime hairdresser
Diane Elizabeth Girton, 75, of Ocean View, formerly of Bethany Beach and Edgewater, Md., passed away peacefully Sunday, March 17, 2024, at TidalHealth PRMC, Salisbury, Md.
Diane was born in Washington, D.C., June 3, 1948, daughter of the late Walter William Girton and Dorothy Elizabeth (Travis) Girton Rogers. She worked as a hairdresser for several years, most recently with the Hair Snippery in Ocean View for over 30 years.
She will be remembered for her creativity and her love of her family. Diane enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and quilt making. She also liked going shopping and the occasional trip to the casino.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by a brother, Bobby Girton; a sister, Peggy McGinn, brother-in-law, Paul McGinn; and two nephews, Michael “Mickey” McGinn and Kevin Fox. Diane is survived by her two sons, Allen Smallwood and Jason Smallwood (Jennifer); a grandson, Cash Smallwood; two sisters, Pat Zook (Horace) and Trudy Fox (Gery); six nieces, Kathleen Barnes, Patty McCarthy, Terry Wright, Stacey Ruberti, Beth Anne Fouble and Andrea Berman; two nephews, Pete Fox and Rob Fox; and several beloved great-nieces and -nephews.
A celebration of Diane’s life will be held from 4:30 to 6 p.m., Wednesday, June 5, at the Ocean View Chapel of Melson Funeral Services, 38040 Muddy Neck Road, Ocean View, with a reception immediately following at Big Fish Grill, 30415 Cedar Neck Road, Ocean View.
In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial contributions in Diane’s name to the Alzheimer’s Association, alz.org.
