Disappointed with Lewes officials’ endorsement

October 25, 2024

As longtime Lewes residents, we were surprised to read the strong endorsement of Mark Schaeffer by Mayor Andrew Williams and Deputy Mayor Khalil Saliba. Overdevelopment in and around Lewes has been very unsettling for Lewes residents as road, medical, fire and rescue and other key services struggle to keep up with the runaway building that’s been greenlighted by Schaeffer and Sussex County Council.

Two years ago, residents of Lewes voted for major changes in city leadership with the hope that there would be more backbone in city hall to face down Sussex County developers. From the looks of it, based on this letter, developers have close friends in city hall. We hope that is not the case!
