Dogfish celebrates MĀR release with evening cruise June 3

Benevolence Beer release benefits MERR Institute
May 25, 2023

Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats is launching its second Benevolence Beer of 2023, supporting the Marine Education, Research and Rehabilitation Institute Inc.

At 5.8% ABV, MĀR is a springy, fruity, blonde ale brewed with strawberry puree, organic barley malt and organic hops. A portion of the beer’s proceeds will be donated to the MERR Institute to support its conservation efforts.

In celebration of the beer’s release and as a nod to local marine life, Dogfish Head is partnering with Cape Water Tours to host a special Strawberry Moon Boat Cruise from 8 to 10 p.m., Saturday, June 3, offering guests an off-centered evening of beer, nature and benevolence.

Upon boarding the Cape Water Taxi at the Lewes Ferry Terminal, folks will receive a 16-oz. can of MĀR to enjoy while taking in the sunset and the strawberry moon, the final full moon of spring, which historically marks the ripening of strawberries in the northern hemisphere.

The ticket cost of $35 per person includes one 16-oz. can of MĀR, and passengers are welcome to bring their own beverages onboard for an extra splash of personal enjoyment. Attendees must be age 21 or above. To purchase tickets, go to capewatertaxi.com.

“In creating the beer with our partners at MERR Institute, we decided a light, glowing strawberry blonde ale would be a great choice for toasting our partnership under the strawberry moon,” said Bryan Selders, Dogfish Head brewing manager. “The name of the beer was chosen to avoid confusion with the pronunciation of MERR Institute, as many people have mispronounced it as ‘muhr.’ The use of the line over the letter ‘A’ in the name emphasizes the correct pronunciation.”

MĀR is available on draft for on-site consumption at Dogfish Head’s Rehoboth brewpub and to go in 4pk/16oz cans at Dogfish Head’s Off-Centered Empourium, while supplies last.

Every 4-pack of MĀR is held together with an ocean-friendly carrier made from recycled industrial material. While carriers can be composted to help cultivate a healthier planet, they also double as turtle food.

"We are thrilled to be partnering with Dogfish on the release of MĀR. It's such a fun way to bring awareness and support to sea turtle and marine mammal conservation. Dogfish Head’s practices fit right in with our environmental mission to protect the ocean," said Suzanne Thurman, MERR executive director.

Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats will also host Benevolence Nights Wednesdays, June 7 and June 21, inviting folks to dine and/or drink in support of the MERR Institute, with 10% of all proceeds being donated to the local nonprofit.
