Dogfish Head community service event set at Abbott’s Mill Aug. 16

August 8, 2024

In collaboration with the Delaware Nature Society, Dogfish Head has launched On a Wing & a Beer, its third Benevolence brew of 2024.

The blonde stout was inspired by the variety of bird species that stop throughout Delaware during their migrations, as well as the insects that help pollinate local plants. The beer’s ingredients – coffee, cocoa, blueberries and bee balm – play key roles in contributing to the biodiversity and health of ecosystems by providing food, habitat and pollination support, which are crucial for the survival of many bird and insect species. Coffee and cocoa were specifically chosen to represent the start of these migrations in South America, while blueberries and bee balm are native to Delaware.

"As the 60th anniversary of the Delaware Nature Society approaches, we're honored to create On a Wing & a Beer to celebrate its work in protecting the environment and connecting people with nature," said Jake Leaf, Dogfish Head Brewings & Eats head brewer. "Inspired by the birds that migrate through Delaware and the insects that call it their home, we incorporated eco-friendly, bird-safe coffee and cocoa, along with native plants like blueberries and bee balm, which was grown and dried at the nature society’s farm."

Dogfish Head and the Delaware Nature Society are also inviting folks to get their hands dirty and give back by participating in a volunteer service event from 8 to 11:30 a.m., Friday, Aug. 16, at Abbott’s Mill Nature Center of Delaware Nature Society, 15411 Abbotts Pond Road, Milford. Participants will spend the morning clearing debris, cleaning up the trails and improving access for kayakers, ending the day enjoying some off-centered ales. To register, go to dogfish.com/beer-and-benevolence. Rain date is Friday, Aug. 23.
