Don’t turn Route 1 into Funland bumper cars

June 11, 2024

Listen up, tourists and transplants: If you find yourself in the wrong lane, there is no acceptable reason or excuse to cut perpendicular to traffic, directly east or west across all three lanes. The Route 1 corridor is not the Blue Route in Pennsylvania, nor is it the Beltway around Baltimore, where missing a turn takes you miles off course. It could not be any easier to navigate; you always have two options to quickly turn around and correct your course. You can stay in the right lane, take the next right turn, and then make a U-turn to catch the left-turning light. The other option is to continue straight through the intersection and gradually merge over to make the U-turn at the next intersection. Traffic is bad enough this time of year, so please consider these two alternatives before turning Route 1 into Funland and playing bumper cars on the highway.
