Donald Barry Johnson, longtime Irish Eyes bartender
Don Johnson, 57, of Milton, left his legions of fans and passed away Friday, July 28, 2023. Donald Barry Johnson was born Feb. 19, 1966, to the late Robert Glenn and JoAnn Blevins Johnson in Jefferson, N.C.
Don graduated from Northwest Ashe High School. After moving to Southern Delaware, he worked in the restaurant industry, starting at the Rusty Rudder in the late ‘80s, and later became a legend behind the bar at Irish Eyes Restaurant and Pub in Lewes.
Don loved to dance, dine with friends, and attend auctions, but most of all he loved giving. Whether it was making one of his famous, beautiful baskets for someone, showering family and friends with gifts, or being there for additional support, his soul always shined brightly. Don was truly loved by so many. While bartending at Irish Eyes, Don would tell his beloved patrons, “If you don’t pay the mortgage, you don’t move the furniture.” So don’t worry Don, we won’t move the furniture.
Don is survived by his sister, Pam Johnson Neill (Nollie) of Ennice, N.C.; his brothers, Mike Johnson (Beth) of Lansing, N.C., Gary Johnson (Stephanie) of Deep Gap, N.C., and Bobby Johnson (Hope) of Laurel Springs, N.C.; his nieces and nephews, Emily Johnson Ballou, Eric Johnson, Cody McLean Sherman, Cassidy Johnson, C.J. Johnson, Shaun Johnson and Gavin Johnson; and his longtime friends, Tammy and Scott Thomas, and Maryellen Kiernan.
A celebration of Don’s life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 10, at Irish Eyes Restaurant and Pub, 213 Anglers Road, Lewes.
Final care has been entrusted to Parsell Funeral Homes & Crematorium, Lewes.
