Donald Erwin Rust, willing to lend a hand
Donald Erwin Rust of Grafton, Va., died on a beautiful, sunny Friday, Jan. 27, 2017. Our beloved Donald passed into angels' arms having fought a courageous battle with his illness. His pain and suffering are now over.
Donald was born May 28, 1945, in Millsboro to Alfred and Laura Rust. He served in the U.S. Air Force overseas as a technician where he met and married the love of his life, Barbara Gargate from Northampton, England, in 1968 before moving back to the States. Donald worked for Newport News Shipbuilders from 1968-78 before moving to Grafton, and starting a 28-year career at Anheuser Busch Brewery before retiring in 2006.
Donald is survived by his wife Barbara; two daughters, Holly Rust Ford her husband Danny and their son Brayden, who reside in Goochland, Va., and Angela Rust Dawicki, her husband Eric, and their three children Morgan, Hannah and Lauren, who reside in Fairhaven, Mass. Donald's three brothers, Melvin, Everett and Dale, and his sister Haddie continue to reside in Delaware.
Don was a friend to all and always willing to lend a hand. His brilliance at problem solving and fixing anything was appreciated by many, and he was always willing to teach and share his knowledge. Don enjoyed time by and near the water, and spent many summers fishing and crabbing off the family boat. Most recently, time spent at Bethpage Campground in Urbanna, Va., provided much joy for him in his retirement. He had an uncanny ability to make people laugh, and had a special talent for telling jokes.
A celebration of Donald's life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, please make donations in Donald's name to Kindred Gentiva Hospice Foundation, 3350 Riverwood Parkway, Suite 1400, Atlanta, GA 30339
