Donald J. Taylor, DNREC retiree

Donald J. Taylor, 83, of Milton, passed away suddenly surrounded by family and friends Sunday, March 26, 2023. Don was born to George J. Taylor and Ida Quering Taylor in Philadelphia, Pa. He was a loving husband, father, grandfather, and friend.

He married the love of his life, Martha (Martie) Wyckoff, in September 1959 and recently celebrated their 63rd anniversary. They moved to Delaware and raised their family. Their life together remains a testament to the love and mercy of their Lord and Savior Jesus Christ.

Don retired from the State of Delaware, DNREC, in 2017 after 17 years. His prior employment was with Townsend's Inc. of Millsboro, where he had 18 years of service.  

Don enjoyed working in their yard and spending time with family and friends. He enjoyed attending the 5-10 Meetings, the Garden Cell Group, and weekly services at Crossroad Community Church in Georgetown. Don and Martie were involved with the local Marriage Encounter community for over 30 years.

Don was predeceased by his parents; his brother, George (Bud); his sister, Dolores Thomas Bush; grandson, Patrick Taylor Straut; and nephew, William J. (Billy) Thomas. 

He is survived by his wife, Martie; two daughters, Terri Straut (Jerry) of Littleton, Colo., and Kimberly Killean (Tom) of Millsboro; four grandchildren, Daria Rawley and Taylor Killean of Millsboro, and Brendan and Emily Straut of Littleton; niece, Donna Adams Cox of Tucson, Ariz.; a surrogate niece, Amy Kratz of Milford; and several close friends. 

A time of visitation will take place from noon to 1 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, at Crossroad Community Church, 20684 State Forest Road, Georgetown. A Celebration of Life Service will immediately follow.  

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Crossroad Community Church or Alzheimer's Association.
