Donna Smith Hurst, enjoyed showing horses

Donna Smith Hurst, 60, died Monday, April 1, 2024, at her childhood home in Lewes, with her parents and brother’s family in attendance after a long battle with cancer. She was born in Fort Knox, Ky., and after leaving home, she lived in Townsend and Hartley.

She is survived by her parents, cousins, brother, and the loves of her life, her two nephews whom she adored. She enjoyed playing with them as much as possible. Her husband, Alex Hurst, preceded her in death.

Donna graduated from Cape Henlopen High School in 1981. Two of her many jobs were with DMV and Valor Arabian stables. Donna enjoyed showing her horses in English, Western and carriage driving competitions. In recent years, she has been active in the Delmarva Driving Club.

Donna did not wish to have a funeral.
